Today our society pays special attention to the full implementation by the Republic of Uzbekistan of its obligations before the international community in combating illicit drug trafficking. In our republic, the customs authorities, in cooperation with law-enforcement agencies, regularly carry out special comprehensive measures to detect and suppress the illegal activities of transnational drug smuggling, close down smuggling channels, destroy sites of drug factories and prevent the spread of the drug epidemic.
On 22 February this year, students were informed about the fight against the disease at a round table on "Countering the spread of drug addiction among young people" at the Faculty of Automotive Engineering. During the event, the speakers noted that drug addiction is one of the most pressing problems worrying the general public around the world and the level of public danger of crimes related to the illegal use of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances is very high. Increasing consumption of narcotic and psychotropic substances leads to an increase in serious diseases and, above all, in crime. Drug addiction is a phenomenon closely linked to crime. Firstly, serious crimes are committed in order to make a profit from the extraction or prevention of drugs. Secondly, crimes are often committed under the influence of drugs. It is all the more regrettable that this disgusting disease, which has been called the "plague of the century", is spreading among young people. It is stressed that the link between drug addiction and criminality is manifested in the commission of criminal acts caused by the trafficking of narcotic drugs.
